F Flying Freehold
What does Flying Freehold mean?

Flying Freeholds are generally must-avoid settlement when you are buying a house, and they are certainly a nuisance if you wish to sell yours which is a flying freehold. More than that, when you want to purchase a home through mortgage loan, the lender will most often deny you the loan, especially if for the purpose of buying a property with flying freehold. In simple terms, a flying freehold is that part of a freehold which extends over the area (land) which is not rightfully owned part of the respective freehold.

For example the house (the freehold) may have a terrace which is actually extending over a land which does not belong to the freehold, but that respective area is the neighbor’s rightful property, his freehold. And here you can see what implications such an arrangement might bring, especially if you come at terms of war with the neighbor.
